NEIGHBOURHOOD PARTNERSHIP

THREAT TO NEIGHBOURHOOD PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS

The London Borough of Croydon called a meeting of all NP Chair to announce  that they were scrapping the Neighbourhood Partnerships and, after some (I believe) heated discussions said that they would consider having a meeting, perhaps once a year, where they could let us know what the Council is doing (i.e talk at us).  As a result these meetings highlighted below were set up.  This is not the original date of Coulsdon’s NP which was / is (?) in March.

Neighbourhood Partnerships at present have been replaced by Cabinet Questiontimes across the Borough and more information can be obtained from www.croydon.gov.uk/democracy/consultations/croydon-question-time

Croydon Question Time - talk to Croydon’s decision makers

Would you like to have the chance to talk to the people that make the decisions for Croydon Council face to face? Are there any issues that you would like to see the council tackling more, or are there any areas of Croydon that you think could do with some extra attention from the council?

During June and July you will have the opportunity to come and speak to members of the cabinet and senior council officers about the issues and services that matter most to you at the Croydon Question Time roadshows.

  • Tuesday 14 June Wolsey Junior School, King Henry’s Drive, New Addington, Croydon CR0 0PH
  • Tuesday 28 June Parchmore Community Centre, 53 - 55 Parchmore Road, Thornton Heath, Croydon CR7 8LY
  • Tuesday 12 July Old Coulsdon Congregational Church, Coulsdon Road, Coulsdon CR5 1EH

Roadshows will run from 7.30pm to 9pm. Refreshments will be provided.

To register your interest please email communications@croydon.gov.uk

    ________

The current Chair of the Coulsdon Neighbourhood Partnership is Charles King. The Vice Chair is Elizabeth Radcliffe. Coulsdon is a very active Partnership and has a Steering Group who met to progress issues in and around Coulsdon. The Chairs of the local Residents’ Association in the area are on this Steering Group as are various other interested local people.

The Neighbourhood Partnerships were first set up in Croydon in 2000 and there are ten Partnerships, covering the whole of the Borough. The purpose of the Partnerships is to consult, encourage comment on the provision of services local and the influence the policies of the Council and its partner agencies as they affect particular geographical areas. Partnerships give you the opportunity to have your say about local issues and matters of concern in your Neighbourhood.

Anyone who lives, works, studies or has business interest in the relevant area can get involved. If you are interested, you may attend any of the meetings as an observer, regardless of where you live or work.

The Partnership  currently meets three times a year at suitable local venues like schools colleges, Church halls etc. Contact details for London Borough of Croydon and information such as dates, Agenda and venues for Coulsdon Neighbourhood Partnership are:

    CORE STRATEGY AND MASTER PLAN

In 2010 Croydon Council published it Core Strategy for the Borough which included Coulsdon Town Centre and Cane Hill as Regeneration Area. ECRA, along with a number of other organsiations responded to this consultation expressing the urgent need to continue with the regeneration of Coulsdon and the start of development on Cane Hill.  The views expressed by the local community were tha development of Cane Hill should compliment the Town Centre and not inculded retail that was in direct competition with the Town Centre.  The Town Centre reqiured one of the four major super markets on a central site; more employment opportunities; improved medical services; more residential accommodation in the Town Centre and improved lesure and library services. The next step is for the Council to publish a Master Plan for Coulsdon, similar to the Master Plans for East and West Croydon that were published in the Autumn of 2010.

    Coulsdon Marster Plan

All the local Residents and Busines Groups met with representatives Croydon and Councillors to urge the setting up of  The Master Plan Group of business interests and to publish the Coulsdon Master Plan as early as possible in 2011 and to have urgent discussion with local stakeholders such as Resdients' Associations and Business Groups as we would like a Town Centre that we can be proud of and attracts people to the Town.  Below is one local residents view of an attractive Town Centre.

Clyde had put the theory of covered walkway forward several times over the last few years and, in conjunction with architects Horden Cherry Lee, they presented to the London Borough of Croydon their concept of how Coulsdon could look with an improved public realm which would compliment the regeneration work which has already taken place but which has been rejected by them as ‘too late’.  The proposals are for covered walkways in the continental style; a folding canopy which would provide lighting from the solar panels and seats beneath.  Rainwater would be channelled either to the gutter or for re-use and the installation would only require the lifting of one paving stone for each support post and therefore could easily be incorporated into the regeneration scheme without too much disruption.

We would like to find out if residents think that such a scheme would be a good idea or not and if we should push LBC to think again. Please let us know your view by emailing info@eastcoulsdon.co.uk .

Here are  representations of how Clyde sees Coulsdon.  Canopies in the form of window blinds were used within Coulsdon in years gone by so would only be an updating of original concepts
